Digital Valentines Day Gift

15 Feb 2012 / 2 Comments / in Photography

To D (My Valentine):

Valentines is hard for me, because D is on the other side of the US. We have never spent valentines day together. So this year my present for her is in the form of something digital. This year, I been learning a bit about Blurred Bokeh. I wanted to create a Digital Valentines Day Gift. Creating something that comes from the hear without the reference to materialism (ie rose and chocolates)

Painting with Professor Freelon

Today, Behnam and I spent a few hours helping our professor Phil Freelon prepare for his exhibition here at MIT.  He resides and has his own firm ( Freelon Group ) in North Carolina while flying in weekly in the Fall semester to teach professional practice.  Recently Obama Appointed Phil Freelon to US Commission of Fine Arts. Here are some Photos…. nothing too exciting, but learning about things outside of architecture and life. It really allows me to see the more human side of professors

Geezz where do u live there is nothin around my house worth taking pics of

I live in Boston.

The whole idea is to try to take something not so interesting and present it in a new light. In doing so, you not only get to express it artisticly in your own light but show things that only you can see. Because anyone can travel and get good photos. You just want to present it in the best way you can through your own experience, and your technical knowledge of photography.

2012-01-24 IR UC Berkeley / Life

25 Jan 2012 / 0 Comments / in Infra Red, Photography, Pix a Day

I went to UC Berkeley to day to use Wurster Library so I can do some research and brainstorm possible Thesis Topics. Its proving harder than usual. I’ve recently been conflicted with doubts of continuing Architecture as a profession. I guess its because I’ve always question my ability to create. My friends have always told me I had a good approach toward composition, lighting, and problem solving. However, I’ve been finding that to design, one must spend weeks if not months to research wat is the that we are designing. In other words, what’s the issue. I like to design things under the order of : ISSUE, POSITION, and MANIFESTATION. I’ve been doing this since I entered Grad school. But I understand that in the contemporary architectural practice, there’s never enough time do do this and clients want it faster and faster. After practicing for a few years and I realized many practicing architects of today are often forced (forced as in limited time and budget) to design without actually figuring out what is it they are trying to solve. Everything comes to aesthetics, and that my friend is a matter of opinion. The ones that do the research usually are the best architects in the world, but they are pinned to 18 hr work days, many unpaid interns (slaves), and often have a questionable marriage because of the amount of time they spend at work……….. (some of you know what im talking about). If not, the movie “Click” starring Adam Sandler. Exaggerated, but not too far from the truth.   I’m not sure I can be or work like that…….

So I woke up feeling really crappy. Pretty much stayed home all day, didn’t do much just shot a few around the house before sundown. I’m getting more used to IR, but its difficult to get the right amount of pixel quality.

2012-01-21 Napa Valley

22 Jan 2012 / 1 Comment / in Pix a Day

Napa valley is the wine country of the west coast. My friend Kelvin hooked me up with some free wine tasting vouchers and we got to try out a bunch of wine @V.Sattui Winery [Link]. We got there late and unfortunately didn’t get to do much photography, but what I have, I really enjoyed shooting.  Getting more used to IR photos. I forgot to shoot in RAW and well…… it turned out JPeg was ok, but there’s a lot of artifacts. Check it out.

Occupy Rain / Hyatt Regency

21 Jan 2012 / 0 Comments / in Architecture

So a bunch of buddy’s and I went to Financial district to check out the protest at 6am this morning. Apparently this march has been on plan for a few weeks now. But tropical storm moves in on the same day….. so we were stupid, at 6am there were 1 tent and 20 people out protesting (see B+W pictures). And after 20 minutes of just walking around thinking we missed the crowd we ducked into the Hyatt Regency in SF. It was designed by Atlanta based John Portman Architects & Associates.  I love the building. And every holiday they really deck it out with the lights. I wish I had more time to spend in this place, its pretty magical.  All in all I wished  I had spent more time on the protest but I couldn’t stand to wait for the weather to die down.
