So I had some fun fabricating a costume for Halloween. I recently watched the film Guardians of the Galaxy. I thought the character designs were excellent interpretation of the comics. I particularly like the mask of Starlord. Its didn’t seem too difficult, but I was intrigued with the glowing eyes. I was wondering if it was possible to make one in real life and not have CG. As I found out, the lights in the eyes are most likely CG because with the lights on, its almost impossible to see out.
I first started the project by buying a mask of amazon… and then realizing the mask was very small and didn’t even cover 2/3 my face. So I decide to finish it and turn it into a helmet. I found a 3d model of it and used Pepekura to unroll it. I used Michael’s 3mm and 8mm Foam to make the rest of the helmet. With a bit of spray paint, 2 leds, some hot glue and lots of duct tape, it looks pretty good. Check it out. I have to say, I spent more time building Rocket Raccoon’s gun, but didn’t really have time documenting it. With a little photoshoping, it really puts the photo in perspective.
